Learn from Joseph – Store up Grain for the Famine

Amos 8:11 NKJV

““Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord.”

Genesis 41:31 NKJV

“So the plenty will not be known in the land because of the famine following, for it will be very severe.”

Genesis 47:13 NKJV

“Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.”

What did Joseph do when he knew there would be a famine?

⁃ He stored up grain in the storehouses

Genesis 41:35-36 NKJV

“And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.””

Genesis 41:49 NKJV

“Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable.”

What can we learn from Joseph?

⁃ since we know according to God’s Word that there is a famine of the Word of God coming, we need to store up the Word of God in the storehouses.

⁃ What are the storehouses? We are: our minds & hearts are where we store up the Word of God (grain, bread)

– The grain (Word of God stored in our hearts & minds) will not only sustain us during the famine for the Word of God, but we will be able to distribute that Word to others just as Joseph did, and just as Jesus had His disciples do.

Jesus fed the people in the wilderness. He distributed the bread through His disciples.

Matthew 15:33-37 NKJV

“Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?” Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.” So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left.”

Correct Doctrine Matters More Than You Think

Before Paul talks about persecution in his letter to Timothy, he first talks about DOCTRINE. If the doctrine is wrong, the rest doesn’t matter. Without proper scriptural doctrine, people will be deceived and deceive, and grow worse and worse (2 Timothy).

2 Timothy 10

“But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

II Timothy 3:10-17 NKJV

Has God Abandoned the Nation of Israel?

There are many today that teach or believe that because Israel rejected Jesus as their Messiah, God has abandoned them to judgment and replaced them with the Church.

Biblically, this is a dangerous false doctrine.

Christ Jesus is firstly the ROOT of Israel. He is THE Messiah of Israel, from the tribe of Judah, descendant of king David according to the physical, and pre-existent as God the Son & the Word in the tri-unity of the Godhead (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit).

All descendants of Israel are His flesh & blood and recipients of the God of Israel’s covenants.

The Apostle Paul, by the Holy Spirit states emphatically in Romans 11 that God has not cast away His people (Israel), in fact God has not only maintained a remnant of Jewish believers as individuals in the Church, He is also keeping His covenants with Israel the NATION to bring about their salvation as a NATION, even though the nation is currently in a state of unbelief & subject to the curses of Deuteronomy until, as a unified nation they recognize Jesus as their true Messiah & cry out “blessed is He who comes in the Name of the LORD!”

Once the fullness of the Gentiles (non-Israelites from all nations) has been grafted in to Christ along with the remnant of believing Israelites as the complete body of Christ, THEN the LORD will also finish His covenant work to “turn ungodliness from Jacob”, take away their sins as a NATION, and fulfill to completion His New Covenant promises with ISRAEL & JUDAH according to Jeremiah.

The Apostle Paul’s Answer in Romans 11

“I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles.

Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

For if the first-fruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches.

But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”” Romans 11:1-2, 11-12, 15-18, 25-27 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/rom.11.1-27.NKJV

God’s Promise of a New Covenant with Israel & Judah

“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”” Jeremiah 31:31, 33 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/jer.31.33-34.NKJV
